PBI expresses profound concern over the events of the 26-27 of september in Iguala, Guerrero in which 6 people were killed, 20 injured and 55 more have disappeared. We are also concerned for the physical and psychological wellbeing of the students, their families and the members of human rights organizations that are supporting them, among them the Tlachinollan Human Rights Center, accompanied by PBI in Guerrero since 2001.

The Bar Human Rights Committee (BHRC) has submitted an amicus curiae brief to the Supreme Court of Colombia in the case of David Ravelo Crespo, a Colombian human rights defender who has been in prison since 2010. Mr Ravelo is a member of CREDHOS, a regional human rights organisation in the Magdalena Medio region.
Mexico City, September 1st 2014 – On August 30, throughout the country CSOs and families of victims of disappearance gathered together to mark the international day of the victims of enforced disappearance.
On 8 July, staff of Oaxacan organization Codigo-DH received a phone call at their offices during which they were threatened in relation to legal proceedings which they are taking in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Minutes later they received a second threatening call, in which persons linked to the Popular Assembly of the People Juchiteco (APPJ) were mentioned and threatened.
We are happy to be able to share some good news we have received today: The cancellation of the temporary residence permits of two volunteers of the Peace Brigades International (PBI) Guatemala Project has been reversed.1
After a meeting held between the Interior Minister, Mr Mauricio López Bonilla and the diplomatic personnel of various European embassies, we have been informed that the situation was down to an unfortunate misunderstanding with regards to the identity of the named individuals.
